Top fashion design jobs
Once you’ve narrowed down the field of jobs you’re willing to take, perhaps you settled on being a fashion designer. You’ve gone to school and learned about patterns, creating attractive silhouettes, and learning how to cultivate your own line. However, even this single position can break down into smaller job opportunities. Knowing what each position entails will help you do more than just find the best paying fashion jobs—it will help you feel creatively fulfilled and happy because you are in a position you enjoy. Fashion job recruiters can help you figure out your strengths and weakness so you’ll have a focused search when applying for the best fashion jobs in your area.

The main designer is creating the looks. The fashion designer is the face of the line and has creative control over what is put out. This position is one of the top fashion jobs candidates may be looking to get. The associate designer is often considered second in command to the designer, helping with sketches and aesthetics of the clothing. An assistant designer provides support to the designer, schedules appointments, accompanies the designer to meetings, and more. Additionally, an assistant designer will often follow up on samples and help to create presentation boards.

The design director and technical designer are two top fashion jobs involved in the design world. These positions require a strong patternmaking, fit, and grading knowledge, as they both work closely with the designer. The design director will also have strong merchandising knowledge while the technical designer will write garment specifics and execute the drawings. A CAD designer has a strong background in computer aided design programs, allowing the employee to translate sketches to the computer. A production manager supervises the process and ensures the products used meet a certain standard. This manager is also responsible for making sure all teams are meeting their deadlines.

Finally, the textile buyer and the fashion forecaster are the last two main positions that make up the design section. The textile buyer collects the fabrics for each season and presents them to the designers. They need to be paying attention to trends for each season and be ahead of the game in terms of finding out what’s popular. The fashion forecaster is responsible for providing information to the textile buyer. These employees are really responsible for setting the stage for each coming season. They are huge resources for the designers as they plan the upcoming lines.
